Traffic Calming Design

Development of traffic calming solutions where safety concerns have been identified, such as excessive speeds and/or volumes.  Improvements can take the form of speed humps, traffic calming circles, chicanes, curb extensions, signing and striping modifications, etc.  Common stages of traffic calming design include field reviews of existing roadway geometry, pedestrian activity, traffic volume and speed collection, identification and selection of appropriate solutions using engineering judgment and cost-benefit analyses, and preparation of plans/reports detailing proposed calming measures.
